I'm interested in putting a panel together relating Latina/o Studies themes within the films of Guillermo Del Toro. His best-known films are within the horror genre, such as Hellboy, Cronos, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, and most recently, Mama. Del Toro's films are inspired by fairy tales and horror and they are also political. For example, The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth are heavily underwritten by political remnants of the Spanish Civil War. If you have abstracts or papers that connect any Latina/o Studies themes with any of Del Toro's films and would like to be a part of this panel, please send them to Adrienne Viramontes at viramont@uwp.edu. ========================================== Create an account with ENGAGE to stay in touch with your Purdue peers who have similar research interests.
