BRNG 1202 1-2pm today! You are invited to attend Uttaran Dutta's job talk! We look forward to seeing you there! Uttaran’s primary research interests are in participatory sustainable development communication research, culture-centered subaltern health communication research, interaction design research for the underserved and visual communication research in developing countries. His dissertation research, funded by Purdue Research Foundation, on one hand seeks to examine how the subalterns enunciate their contextual development needs; and on the other it seeks to study how they collectively identify and utilize locally available resources and opportunities to achieve the development goals and to overcome the adversities of everyday existence. Recently, he developed an information kiosk ‘OpenPortal’ for subaltern communities of eastern India utilizing a Purdue University Service Learning Grant. He was also a research assistant in a ($1.5 million) Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality grant-funded research project on heart disease in two low-income African American communities in Indiana. His interdisciplinary background in civil engineering, management studies, and design studies aided him to develop and teach upper-level courses on Visual Persuasion, Communication and Emerging Technology and Science Communication for communication and STEM majors.
