Good to know... Is communication considered part of the social sciences? I cannot find Purdue's name in the Top 50 though.

WOW! Thank you for letting me know, ENGAGE administrator. Are we still ranked the 2nd in 2012 though? Also, is it because our school has more graduate students? If we divide the number of publications by the number of graduate students, will we still be ranked 2nd? I am sure there are some who outperform. I probably will not be contributing to that ranking though...

Hi LaiShan, Boyyy, you have a maths mind! You will rock in STAT classes! We have all felt that way. Here is how it goes. In the first 3 semesters of the PhD you keep accumulating knowledge and research ideas (keep a small notebook, colorful and happy to track down your research ideas, include references, authors, the title of the article/book and page number--a pink or a purple one worked best for me). After the 3rd semester, conferences and publications will flow naturally. You won't be staying much in school, but you'll be traveling here and there to present your research until you feel you are a little tired of packing and unpacking. We all felt we would not contribute to the ranking or to our field. This is the normal feeling a first-year PhD student should have. If you didn't feel like that, it would mean you don't care about your studies. So, trust that you are on the right track. We have all been there. One more thing: the Global PR class you are enrolled in, is a great source for research ideas. Just jot them down and stay positive. Peace & Love from the ENGAGE administrator.
